SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO — National United Church of Christ’s Plymouth Church is holding a prayer vigil on the front steps of their church to honor the victims of the tragic Orlando Nightclub Mass Shooting. The vigil will take place tonight at 8pm and will be accompanied by prayer, singing, candle lighting and concise scripture reading. Plymouth’s Senior Minister Dr. Shawnthea Monroe wants to restore hope in the community and says, “The vigil is meant to gather the community, not to serve a particular church; and to give us a chance to express this horrible grief and helplessness we feel.” Dr. Monroe is welcoming all people to the vigil and aspires to debunk the myths that the LBGT community is not welcomed in Christian churches.
The service will be held at Plymouth Church, located at 2860 Coventry Road Shaker Heights, Ohio.
The national outpour of support has been continual and can also be seen corporately. Jet Blue announced they are offering free flights for immediate family members and partners of the victims of the Orlando mass shooting tragedy.
