On Friday, a judge ruled against singer Kesha and sided with alleged rapist producer Dr. Luke. Luke is accused of physically and emotionally abusing Kesha, including drugging and raping her a decade ago. Luke allegedly drugged her with date rape drug GHB, in which he called them “sober pills.”
The judge will not let Kesha out of her contract with Sony-subsidiary label, Kemosabe Records. In the lawsuit, Kesha claims Luke started the abuse in 2005, when she was only 18, and it was ongoing for nearly 10 years.
Stars Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Lorde, and Lady Gaga took it to twitter to show their support. But Taylor Swift went to the bank to show support, donating $250,000 to the singer for any financial woes.
Regarding the court proceedings:
“Kesha cannot work with music producers, publishers, or record labels to release new music. With no new music to perform, Kesha cannot tour. Off the radio and stage and out of the spotlight, Kesha cannot sell merchandise, receive sponsorships, or get media attention.”
Sony has come forth to allow Kesha to work with other producers on the label, but Kesha fears they will still make her work with the hitmaker Dr. Luke. Kesha has 6 albums left to fulfill the contract.
